How Clerkcast works
Schedule and stream meetings, review captions and manage your video library. Each meeting keeps the same page from its scheduled start through replay and archive.
Live meetings
Schedule a meeting and check your stream in a private preview. When you're ready, go live with automatic captions.
- Connect your encoder
- Use OBS, Zoom's custom live streaming, or a hardware encoder sending H.264 video and AAC audio over RTMP, RTMPS or SRT. You can also stream from a browser over WHIP. Each channel has a permanent stream key.
- Preview, then Go Live
- The stream arrives in a staff-only preview. An editor clicks Go Live, or the meeting can go live by itself at its scheduled start.
- Live captions
- Captions are generated automatically as people speak, using your list of local names and places.
- Agenda marks
- Staff click each agenda item as the meeting reaches it. The marks become the recording's chapters.
- Rewind while live
- Viewers can go back to the start of the meeting while it's still going.
- YouTube and Zoom
- Send the same stream to YouTube with live captions, and send captions into the Zoom meeting itself.
- Before it starts
- The meeting page shows a countdown, the agenda, documents and a calendar file as soon as it's scheduled.
- Replay
- Residents can watch the recording at the same address as soon as the meeting ends.

- Uploads
- Add past meetings and other video, up to 20 GB a file. Each one is processed with captions and chapters.
- Channels
- One for each board or commission, in the order you choose.
- Search
- Residents search titles, descriptions and captions, and each result jumps to the moment it was said.
- Embeds that don't change
- Embed a single meeting, or a channel's live player that always shows the current or next meeting. The code never changes.
- Who can embed
- Allow embeds anywhere, only on the sites you list, or nowhere, for the whole town, a channel or a video.
- Downloads
- Downloads are on by default. Turn them off for the whole town, a channel or an individual video.
- Visibility
- Draft, unlisted (by link only) or public.
- Restore deleted videos
- A deleted video can be restored for 30 days.
Captions
Review automatic captions alongside the recording. Correct mistakes, then verify the revision so residents know staff have checked it.
- Caption editor
- Play the video beside the caption list. Edit text and timing, split or merge lines, and use keyboard shortcuts as you work.
- Verify
- Verifying a revision records who checked it and when. The player shows “Verified captions” or “Automatic captions, not yet reviewed”.
- Revisions
- Changes are saved as revisions. Earlier revisions remain available, with a record of who made each change.
- Local vocabulary
- Add street names, board members and local terms to help the automatic captions recognize them.
- Import captions
- Upload a WebVTT file from a captioning service, or keep the captions already in an uploaded video.
- Publish before review
- Choose whether recorded captions are visible before staff verify them. Live captions are always visible.
- English
- Captions are in English. Clerkcast doesn't translate them into other languages.
