Clerkcast can carry a Zoom meeting to your public site with Zoom's custom live streaming, and can send Clerkcast's live captions back into the Zoom meeting. The same steps are in the app on each channel's page (Admin → Channels → your channel → Connect an encoder → Zoom), with your own server, key and page filled in.

Once, in Zoom (a Zoom account admin)

In Zoom's web settings, under Settings → In Meeting (Advanced), turn on Allow live streaming meetings and tick Custom Live Streaming Service.

For each meeting

  1. Before the meeting, open it on Zoom's website and, under Live Streaming, configure the custom service with:
    • Stream URL: the channel's RTMP server (rtmp://ingest.clerkcast.app:1935/live)
    • Stream key: the channel's key (reveal it on the channel page; revealing is recorded)
    • Live streaming page URL: your channel's public page (shown on the channel page)
  2. In the meeting, open More → Live on Custom Live Streaming Service. Zoom starts sending; the meeting's event console in Clerkcast shows the signal and a private preview.
  3. Choose Go Live in the event console when the public part begins.
  4. At the end, choose End in the event console, then stop the live stream in Zoom.

Zoom streams the active speaker or gallery view as it appears to the host. Pin or spotlight as you want viewers to see it before going live.

Captions in Zoom (optional)

Clerkcast's live captions can appear inside the Zoom meeting too:

  1. In the Zoom meeting, the host opens Captions → Set up manual captioner → Use an API token and copies the API token URL.
  2. Paste it into the meeting's event console in Clerkcast (Zoom captions). It's stored encrypted and never shown again in full.

If Zoom refuses the captions (an expired token, captions turned off for the meeting), the event console says so and stops sending; paste a new token to start again. The public stream's captions are unaffected.

Using different equipment? See all setup guides, or the encoder settings on your channel's page in the admin.
